Holiday Break
NNH will be taking a Holiday break and will return in the New Year.
If you're one of the new(ish) members of the community, I encourage you check out some of the posts you may have missed: Apparitions Part 1 and 2 seem to be particularly well received by readers whose opinion I hold dearly.
Otherwise, I'll leave you with the official No New Heroes Guide to Busting the Holiday Blues™
- Watch, read, or listen to any of the thousands of variations Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol through the lens that it was one of the first time travel narratives ever created, predating HG Welles' Time Machine by 52 years. Ghosts that torture a super wealthy Capitalist with his own memories until he redirects his resources towards a life of compassion? We approve.
BONUS POINTS: Take a shot (or whatever form of impulsive behavior brings you joy) during Miles Davis' cameo in 1988's Scrooged. - Buy something in bulk. Let the size and weight be determined by your primary mode of daily travel- bottles of water if you have a car; glove/ feet warmers if you ride a train; protein bars if you're a cyclist; etc. Keep them with you so that the next time someone asks you for help you can offer it to them. Repeat the process until you run out. Consider doing it all over again.
- Listen to John Coltrane's Greensleeves and regain faith in humanity.
BONUS POINTS 2: Track down Built To Spill's version of Linus and Lucy originally by the by Vince Guaraldi Trio. - If you live somewhere that's snowing, follow Yoko Ono's instructions from Tape Piece III (Snow Piece):
Take a tape of the sound of the snow falling.
This should be done in the evening.
Do not listen to the tape.
Cut it and use it as strings to tie gifts with.
Make a gift wrapper, if you wish, using the same process with a phonosheet.
1963 autumn
If you live somewhere warm, don't gloat over your friends who are probably freezing their asses off trying to record the sound of snow. - Give yourself the gift of permission to ______(fill in the blank)_______.
I don't care what the newsman says; 2026 is gonna be a good one.
A call to action, commonly known by the initialism CTA, is a strategic marketing tool designed to spur an immediate response from an audience, guiding them toward a specific action.
NNH began with the (perhaps naive) hope that it could be of service to folks who needed it. I wasn't exactly sure who that meant- Was it the potential readership? The Mutual Aid groups that would be featured in each post? Or other creative types (equally fed up with the constant "me at the center" paradigm required by our Tech Overlords) looking for a place to get weird and do some good.
SO, if you're out there- whomever you may be- Let me know. Leave a comment. Click a link. Tell a friend. Pitch an idea. Do anything to feel less alone in the world.
