What is this ?!?

No New Heroes is an experimental newsletter that combines grassroots creativity with mutual aid.

Here you'll find a kaleidoscopic array of stuff - one post may be an online exhibition followed by a chapter of serial storytelling; after that a vinyl-only music mix followed by a dinner recipe that'll fill your kitchen with revolutionary spirit.

Each post is paired with a short profile on a mutual aid or grassroots social justice group that matches the week’s concept, along with a direct link to support them. While donating (money, time, or supplies) is completely optional, we believe that this step is essential part of fully experiencing of No New Heroes.

We invite you to think of this site less as a chance to consume more free content, and instead as an opportunity build community solidarity. Everyone who creates something on No New Heroes is doing so from a place of service. We are fully aware that this medium is overridden with self-serving paywalls, Patreon FOMO, advertising assaults, and not so subtle mentions of side hustles. That ain’t us.

So, if you find any value in what you see, hear or read, we simply ask you pay it forward. It’s a guaranteed way to feel less alone in the world.

I still don’t exactly get it. This isn’t how things usually work!

We know! We're still figuring it too... And that’s why we’re excited by it!

For us, being experimental means not knowing the outcome when you begin. It means repeatedly getting things wrong, before you get it right. Sometimes experimental means there isn’t even a right or wrong- there just is.

Experimental means being vulnerable in a time of tech-bozo certainty. We aren't looking to be optimized or streamlined; and we definitely won't be pandering to the algorithm. What we want is an exchange. A willingness to trust where something is headed, even if the destination is still revealing itself.

“We don’t need another hero…” - Tina Tuner
“We just need you.” - The rest of us.
